What is the difference between cosmetic & medical tattooing?

Cosmetic and medical tattooing are two different techniques that involve the use of pigments to create natural semi-permanent or designs on the skin. Medical tattooing is a technique used to improve the appearance of scars, restore pigmentation to the skin, or create the illusion of a 3D nipple & areola after breast reconstruction surgery.

Cosmetic tattooing, also known as micropigmenting, ombré and or permanent makeup, involves the application of pigments to the skin in order to enhance or improve the appearance of certain features, such as eyebrows, eyeliner, lips, and even scars. Medical tattooing including scar camouflage is also used to cover up vitiligo, a condition in which the skin loses pigment, as well as to create realistic-looking 3D areolas and nipples for individuals who have undergone mastectomy or breast surgery.
